How to Make Money Live Streaming in 2022

Live streaming has been growing tremendously over the past few years. Major live streaming websites like Twitch and Facebook grew over 45% in 2021 as stated in the 2021 State of the Stream.

With such massive growth in live streaming, many popular creators and businesses have been able to make money and secure income from subscriptions, partnerships, sponsorships, and donations during their live streams. However, it’s been notoriously difficult for small-to-medium sized live streamer to make a living income, let alone any money at all.

This is, in part, due to the current live streaming ecosystem. With many platforms like Facebook not natively supporting donations on their platform, creators and businesses who are pursuing live streaming as a career or a way to make money have a tough time justifying and continuing their live streaming journey.

Live streaming platforms that do have native donation integration, like YouTube with their Super Chats and Twitch with their Bits, typically end up taking a substantial percentage from the donation in the form of fees. For example, if a viewer would like to donate to you on Twitch using Bits, then the viewer would be hit with a 40% fee. Another example would be YouTube taking a 30% fee from all Super Chats made to the live streamer. This results in the streamer having to pay the fee instead of the viewer like on Twitch.

Whether the platform supports donations already or if the live streamers use third-party donation platforms, these two approaches are far from the solution of monetization for small-to-medium sized creators.

That’s why, on Zeacon Live Studio (ZLS), we aimed to support the creators as much as possible with our donation feature.

Not only do we have a built-in donation button and transaction system, but, we also have lower fees than any of the other live streaming platforms out there. With the Free Plan on ZLS, we only charge a 10% fee* with every donation made through ZLS. With our Standard Plan and Professional Plan, the donation fee drops to 5% and 2%, respectively.

With the power of donations on ZLS, Whiz Kiddd (AKA Andy Nguyen) and Mae Milloy (Mama Mae) were able to raise over $250 in just one hour for a local nonprofit.

Mama Mae’s event is just one example of the hundreds that utilize the donation feature on ZLS. Over $6,000,000 has been raised through our platform and the number will continue to grow every day as our users create content through their live streams and intelligently connect with their communities.

Live streaming is growing more every year and more creators, businesses, and individuals are creating careers and income from their live content. This is, in part, due to the generosity of the viewers and fans who love the creator and their content. By making it easier to donate on Zeacon Live Studio, our users can accept tips, collect donations, and earn money on their live streams all while creating genuine, authentic moments with their community.
